Christian Bale gets all Gotham on 'Terminator' cinematographer

Christian Bale gets all Gotham on 'Terminator' cinematographer

Oh my.

Have you heard the scorching on-the-set rant by Christian Bale, who was clearly furious at Shane Hurlbut, the director of photography for "Terminator Salvation"? Clearly, somebody in the film's audio department decided that the famously severe actor's tantrum should be heard by the world ... which is why it landed not long ago over at TMZ.

And ... wow, he's mad.

You can hear it right here but, please, don't go there if you are offended by coarse language or if you are a big fan of Bale and don't want your affections shaken.

Why the vicious tantrum? Essentially, Hurlbut (who worked with "Terminator Salvation" director McG on "We Are Marshall") walked across Bale's sight-line during a scene. That's a huge no-no and anybody with Hurlbut's two decades of experience on movie sets is well aware of that.

"If you do it one more time I ain't walking on this set if you're still hired!" Bale barks at Hurlbut at one point during the three-minute snippet (the besieged cinematographer can't be heard during the barrage -- clearly the audio is all from the microphone on or near Bale).

I'm not sure anyone will be surprised by the eruption, except perhaps by its duration. Bale is known as a serious actor and a serious guy (did you see what he did to himself for "The Machinist"?) and his temper has been an issue before, at least if you believe his mother and sister and their account of his behavior last year. (I've never met the guy; I have talked to him on the phone but it was a brief interview and not very revealing, but I'm a big fan of his work, especially in "Harsh Times," "The Prestige" and "3:10 to Yuma.")

There's a lot of pressure in making a major blockbuster and any project as dark and intense as "Salvation" can take the cast into some pretty edgy places. Still, it's hard to listen to this rant and think of the guy as a healthy, mature adult. The bottom line? Bale certainly won't win any friends in the industry by savagely insulting a professional in front of a crowd. But it's just as certain that as long as Bale remains the famous face on all the movie posters, people will put up with the abuse.

The Mentalist: Seeing Red

The Mentalist: Seeing Red

EPISODE RECAP

A peaceful garden with a burbling fountain surrounded with various florae welcomes visitors to The Temple of Harmony. A sign introduces us to Kristina Frye, a psychic, who offers "psychic wellness" and "healing through clairvoyance." This tranquil scene is interrupted as one woman, Rosemary, bursts out of the door with a Kristina begging her to stay, warning her that she is in danger. Kristina assures Rosemary that she is only trying to help her but Rosemary refuses to stay and storms down the path. As Rosemary walks down the street, her phone rings. She looks at the number and with frustration returns her phone to her purse without answering it. Suddenly, with no warning, a car speeds up along the road and on to the sidewalk knocking down and killing Rosemary.

The CBI team assembles at the crime scene where they meet the lead detective, Marco Francis. Francis fills them in on the details of the crime. The victim is Rosemary Tennant, the wife of a prominent businessman with strong political connections. They have witnesses who saw what happened, paint evidence from the vehicle and a partial plate number. After the typical jurisdictional sparring, it is determined that CBI will lead the investigation. Rosemary had filed a missing persons report on her son, Travis. He is apparently a troubled teen.

Kristina Frye approaches the group. She tells them that Rosemary was having a session with her when her deceased husband warned her that she was in danger. Kristina explained that she was the conduit for the spirit of Rosemary's husband. Patrick had been quietly observing the scene, however, he reacts to the psychic's claim with thinly veiled contempt. Lisbon watches their exchange with mild amusement and diplomatically asks Kristina if she could come to their office for further questioning. Kristina asserts that Patrick is misreading the situation. He smiles broadly at Lisbon, obviously relishing the thought of exposing Kristina for the sham he believes she is.

The next day, Jane, Lisbon and Van Pelt begin their interrogation of Kristina. Kristina states she has known Rosemary for three years. She has been meeting with her five to six times a week, as Rosemary felt lost after the death of her husband. She explains that people were taking advantage of Rosemary and as a result the relationship with her children, Travis and Clara suffered. When questioned further about this, she refused to share any more information, citing client confidentiality. Patrick's skepticism is apparent when he comments on the $3000 per week fee that Kristina was receiving and he challenges her motives. Kristina turns the questioning back on Patrick and begins to read him with remarkable perception. Patrick dismisses her insight and declares that the tragedy in his life is easy to research. Kristina is unfazed by Patrick's antagonism and asks to leave.

Later that day, Rigsby, Jane and Lisbon approach Rosemary Tennant's home. They meet Rosemary's house guest, Jeremy Hale. Hale is a photographer who has been living in the home for six months. He denies that they were lovers. Jane asks if it is all right if he looks around. Lisbon and Rigsby continue the questioning, talking about Rosemary's children and her will. Patrick calls down to the group to come upstairs. They find him in Hale's photography studio. They observe and comment on what a well-equipped studio it was. Jane suggests that Hale was the cause of the conflict between Travis and Rosemary; he argues that Travis left because Hale took over his room for a studio. Jane finds a small attic room that appeared to be Travis's new room. Jane continues to challenge Hale, suggesting that Travis left because of him. As Jane presses the issue, Hale becomes more and more defensive.

Back at the office, the team discusses the possible suspects and pool information that they have discovered. Family animosities and social parasites seem to present several possibilities. Rosemary's daughter, Clara, enters the office. Patrick says little during the interview but as always watches carefully. Clara expresses sorrow that her mother is gone and worries about her missing brother. She tells them that her mother changed after their father died. When she was away at school, Travis told her that people were taking advantage of her mother. Travis' behavior became erratic. She explains to them that Jeremy moved in when her brother started acting up. She describes him as scary and dangerous. Lisbon asks her where Travis is but she doesn't know. Jane asks her to put Travis' number into his phone. She tells him that Travis will not return his call but she complies. Patrick punches in the number and leaves a rather puzzling message on Travis' phone...

Patrick: (in a calm monotone voice) Hello Travis, you don't know me but my name is Patrick Jane. I'm a friend. I know you're in a little trouble right now and I want to offer you some peace of mind, but I don't know what peace of mind means to you. It's different for everyone. For instance, I like riding horses but would horses make you happy? I don't know. Why wouldn't horses make you happy? Around and round in your mind until you're sure and go to that place where you know you are happy and give me a call. You have my number.

Jane, Rigsby and Cho wait in an amusement park and the purpose and nature of Jane's call to Travis becomes evident. After a few minutes, Travis shows up and Cho is impressed by Jane's abilities. As Travis finds a seat on the merry-go-round, the three detectives quietly surround him. When Travis notices them, he starts to run away but Patrick calmly calls his name and asks him to stay...and he does.

Back at the office, Lisbon and Cho conduct Travis' interrogation. Travis states that he loves his mother and denies having anything to do with his mother's death. He explains that he ran away because he hated Jeremy. Travis is asked to provide details of where he was and with whom, to account for his time during his mother's murder. Patrick stands outside the interrogation room with Clara, observing both Clara and Travis.

Later the team discusses reasons for the changing of Rosemary's will and the motives that would evolve from such a change. They know that Jeremy stood to get a substantial amount from the will and Christina Frye was added to the will days before Rosemary's death. Grace defends Kristina and takes issue with Patrick's skepticism. At that moment Kristina calls and says she is 'picking up on something'. Grace goes to see her and Patrick insists on going with her.

Jane and Van Pelt enter The Temple of Harmony. Jane looks around the reception room and calls into question the commercialism of Kristina's 'temple'. Kristina greets them and they sit to begin their discussion. Jane questions what he calls her 'high-game' in contrast to the cliché accoutrements that surround them. Kristina defends herself by suggesting that she is simply giving the people what they expect just as he did when he was in the game. Their verbal sparring continues until Grace interrupts and brings the topic back to the case. Kristina reveals that she has had a vision about the car used in the murder of Rosemary. She explains that she sees it in a large body of water. Later, they find Rosemary's car in a reservoir outside of town.

Clara and Travis report that Jeremy has left the house with some of their mother's jewelry. Patrick looks around in Jeremy's studio and finds a picture of a young woman. The picture is damaged and Patrick postulates that the damage was made by a woman's heel…in all probability, Rosemary's heel. They show the picture to the children and she is identified as Connie Adams, Rosemary's bridge partner's daughter. When Hale is found in flagrante delicto with Connie, he is hauled down to head quarters for further questioning.

Jeremy continued to deny accusations that he murdered Rosemary even when faced with mounting evidence against him. He lies about knowing Kristina Frye and he finally requests a lawyer. They speak to Kristina Frye once more and learn that not only was she a beneficiary of Rosemary's will but also she admits to having a relationship with Jeremy.

Patrick goes to the Tennant home and asks Travis and Clara to request that Kristina hold a séance to call his mother's spirit at the reading of the will. Although he tells them that he suspects Kristina is the murderer, we wonder what kind of trap he is setting.

A large group assembles for the séance. It includes the CBI team, Travis, Clara, the family lawyer, Jeremy and others. Kristina calls for the group to believe. Patrick stands back and observes. Lights begin to flicker and a voice calling Kristina calls out asking Clara why she did it. Clara runs from the room. Patrick follows and Clara finally confesses. We see Cho and Rigsby out in a van providing the eerie sound effects.

Later in the office, Clara explains why she murdered her mother. She explains that she was so angry with her mother for disinheriting Travis and ignoring her attempts to talk to her. She followed her to one of her sessions with Kristina. While her mother was walking down the street, she tried once more to call her but her mother refused to answer her phone. She snapped and ran her down with the car. She tells them that she did it for Travis. She cries and tells them that parents are supposed to look after their children. This statement seems to strike a nerve with Patrick, although he says nothing. After the interrogation, Clara says goodbye to her brother and gives him some sisterly advice.
Kristina enters the office and asks to speak to Patrick in private. They find an empty interview room. Kristina asks him to let her have her say and not to interrupt.

Kristina: I talked to your wife...(Patrick begins to stop her) ah, ah...(Kristina pauses for a moment to collect her thoughts) Ever since your wife and daughter were killed, there's a question about that night's events that's been tormenting you, yes? (Patrick stares at her stone faced for a moment) Yes?
Patrick: (Patrick answers quickly and continues to stare.) Yes.
Kristina: (Sigh) Your wife wants me to tell you that your daughter never woke up. She didn't know what happened. She wasn't scared, not even for a second.
(Patrick's stare hardens but he continues to stare at Kristina.)
Patrick: Are you done channeling? That's it?
Kristina: That's it.
(Patrick looks away and replies curtly...)
Patrick: Thanks.
(Kristina rises to leave the room, as Patrick continues to stare)
Kristina: Goodbye Mr. Jane.

Patrick doesn't answer her. He begins to weep. Grace walks by the room and sees Patrick. She quietly closes the door.

Alexandra Pelosi is in the news

 Alexandra Pelosi, a filmmaker

Alexandra Pelosi Is Nancy Pelosi Daughter

Alexandra Pelosi, a filmmaker and the daughter of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Alexandra Pelosi is in the news after her latest film, “The Trials of Ted Haggard” aired tonight on HBO. The documentary follows the evangelical preacher as he tries to rebuild his life after the sex and drug scandal rocked the church. Pelosi focused on the theme of forgiveness, saying, “The story is about a church that preaches forgiveness. He, as a pastor, preached forgiveness and redemption. But he was not forgiven and he was not redeemed. They cast him out and they exiled him. It was very biblical in a way. Not that I even read the Bible, so I wouldn’t know. But the people who go to church get told every Sunday, `We forgive.’ He was not forgiven. That, to me, is what is interesting about it.”

As a biography, Alexandra Pelosi was born October 5, 1970 in San Francisco, California, so her age is 38. She is married to Michiel Vos. They have 2 children together. She graduated from USC’s Annenberg School for Communication with a master’s degree in Communication Management. Alexandra is the daughter of Nancy Pelosi, the current Speaker of the House in the United States Congress. She works as a filmmaker and director, with four documentaries under her belt.

Alexandra and Haggard worked together previously for her film “Friends of God: A Road Trip with Alexandra Pelosi”. For that documentary, Haggard served as her tour guide as she traveled through the south and examined the practices and politics of fundamentalist, evangelical Christians.

Her latest film, though, is the one that people will remember. After Haggard’s relationship with another man and his drug use became public, he stepped down from the New Life Church. But now he is revealing details that were previously kept quiet. Alexandra’s film brings many new aspects of the story to light, which makes it an interesting movie to watch.

Alexandra is dedicated to the topics she pursues. Once, when investigating hate in America, she joined the KKK to get an inside look.

Monica Raymund

Monica Raymund

CHICAGO – “The Mentalist” is the only significant new hit for the 2008-2009 season and the number one rule in TV is that if something works once, try and replicate it. Viewers can expect to see dozens of clones of the Simon Baker series in the next few years. It is into this atmosphere that Fox hopes their newest crime series, “Lie To Me,” can find a loyal audience.

Network TV ratings may be sliding across the board, but there is one genre that seems more resilient to the erosion than others - the crime drama. From network staples like “CSI” to cable shows like “The Closer,” every network head is looking for the next procedural with a twist, the show that they can keep on the air for years, preferably with a revolving door cast and very little effort on their part.

The Lightman Group is a private agency hired to expose the truth behind the lies in the new series Lie To Me premiering Wednesday, Jan. 21 (9:03-10:06 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Pictured L-R: Kelli Williams, Tim Roth, Brendan Hines and Monica Raymund.

Fox’s “Lie To Me” is not a straight-up clone of “The Mentalist” (and, of course, it was in production before that show took off) but it certainly shares some character traits with CBS’ massively entertaining program in that it’s about a man who sees things in human behavior that the average crime fighter does not. Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) can not only tell if a suspect is lying, but can often take it a step further and tell you why someone is being deceptive. “Lie To Me” is based on the true discoveries of Dr. Paul Ekman, an expert in reading clues in the human face, body, and voice, often brought in to investigate criminal investigations.

The Lightman Group, headed by Tim Roth’s character, assists government agencies, police detectives, and federal law enforcement with issues of deception. Dr. Lightman’s right-hand woman is Dr. Gillian Foster (Kelli Williams of “The Practice”), a psychologist more interested in the general picture than her partner’s detail-oriented approach. Their chemistry is the highlight of the premiere and what the writers will need to focus on if “Lie To Me” is going to improve.

Drs. Lightman and Foster are assisted by a lead researcher named Eli Loker (Brendan Hines) and a new-hire named Ria Torres (Monica Raymund). The former gets to play comic relief with his practice of “radical honesty” and the latter is the “natural,” the rare person who can pick up on all the physical tics and verbal cues without much training

The team behind “Lie To Me,” including writer Samuel Baum (“The Evidence”) and the executive producers of “24” and “Arrested Development,” clutter their first episode with two cases, character introductions, and even jabs at real-life personalities to the point that the whole thing sinks under the weight of its concept. It feels forced.

Q&A: Clifton Powell, actor

Q&A: Clifton Powell, actor

To use a term coined by my colleague Ben Steelman, Clifton Powell is one of those "him-agains," actors you instantly recognize but can't always name.

A 20-year film industry veteran with credits in such movies as Dead Presidents, Menace II Society, Woman Thou Art Loosed and Ray, and who has played numerous TV roles, Powell was in Wilmington several months ago to film the romantic comedy Love for Sale for local production company Swirl Films.

On Thursday, June 12, at Odell Williamson Auditorium in Supply, Powell is again hooking up with Swirl's Eric Tomosunas to present the play The Man of Her Dreams by Donald Gray. Powell is directing and starring in the play, which has similarities to the urban dramas toured by the writer and actor Tyler Perry, who turned many of his own plays into popular films. The Man of Her Dreams also stars Jackee Harry (227, Sister Sister) as the wife of a senator (Powell) who must confront a number of family problems, and the gospel singer Shirley Murdock.

During the June 12 performance, the play will be taped for a direct-to-DVD release by Swirl Films. The cast will stick around after the performance for autographs and photos.

I caught up with Powell on the phone recently while he was in Los Angeles, where he lives.

You were just in Wilmington doing 'Love for Sale.' How did that go?

It was great. Working with Russ (Parr, radio personality and the film's director) and Eric (Tomosunas) and everybody. There's nothing like Southern hospitality.

Looking back over the course of your career, and particularly over the last two years, it seems like you stay pretty busy.

I travel. I'm a worker for hire (laughs). I've been a working actor and I'm just really grateful to all the people of all colors that have supported my career over the years. It's been a wonderful journey, but I tell ya, it's not over yet. I'm recreating myself as a director now, and this opportunity we have to come down to Wilmington next week and do this faith-based play to DVD, it's just a blessing to be able to create and to find outlets for your creativity.

Tell me a little bit about the play, 'The Man of Her Dreams.'

The Man of Her Dreams is really a family drama that has faith-based undertones. It has comedy and music, but it's a different kind of piece, it's very dramatic. It's very heart-wrenching in some places and it's funny as heck in other places. It's about a family and some of the drama that goes on in the family. I don't want to tip my hand, because there are some twists and turns that this thing takes and the audience gets pulled in, but we took this show out on the road a few years ago, man, and it was such a hit. It was the first play I thought about when I wanted to direct my first one.

Aside from Jackee and Shirley Murdock, who else is in the cast?

Chrystale Wilson who played Ronnie in The Players Club, Buddy Lewis, Christopher Williams, Dave Hollister, Drew Sidora. So we have a wonderful cast and I'm looking forward to it.

Are you or the playwright, Donald Gray, inspired at all by the work Tyler Perry has done?

Tyler started on the urban circuit and built up a wonderful following and just, you know, did his thing and transferred that into movies television. And that's what our plan is, to segue this into movies and television and keep on moving.

Without giving away too much of the story, tell me a little bit about your character and what he's all about.

Well, I play the patriarch of the family, the senator. He's up for re-election and he's had some family issues and some family secrets that come out and kind of derail his marriage and his campaign. So you have to stay tuned, but it's kind of juicy.

Anything else you'd like to say?

Just back to Man of Her Dreams, I want all the guys to come out. Sometimes I feel like the guys don't want to come out because they feel like they're going to get bashed, but everybody gets a little something in here. The guys get it, the girls get it, but it's really more about family and making choices.

Lawyer: A-Rod and Madonna Had 'An Affair of the Heart'

Alex Rodriguez's relationship with Madonna was "an affair of the heart" – not "sexual infidelity" – according to Cynthia Rodriguez's lawyer.

Still, the baseball star's relationship with the singer "was the last straw" before the Yankee slugger's wife filed for divorce Monday, her Houston attorney, Earle Lilly, tells PEOPLE.

Lilly says that A-Rod was smitten with Madonna, but makes no claim of any sexual liaison. "The correct analysis is a relationship," he says. "Some people categorize an affair as something as sexual infidelity. We're not claming that. It's an affair of the heart."

Over the weekend, Madonna issued a statement to PEOPLE denying a romantic relationship with the baseball star, saying, "I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage."

In fact, "Madonna's name is not even mentioned in the papers," says Lilly. "We don't want the public to think this is an aggressive action against Madonna."

Still, Lilly maintains that A-Rod has behaved badly for "a good while" and his client, Cynthia Rodriguez, has had enough. "She's just a Greek Orthodox lady who has had as much as she can take," he says.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, Cynthia's Miami attorney Maurice Kutner filed the divorce petition.

"This is an action for dissolution of marriage, which is being filed only after [Cynthia Rodriguez] has exhausted every effort to salvage the marriage of the parties," the document reads. "However, Alex has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him."

Without naming any names, the document states, "The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct."

The couple were married Nov. 2, 2002 in Dallas. They have two daughters, Natasha, 3, and Ella, 2 months.

Both Lilly and Kutner maintain that their client hopes to settle the divorce as amicably as possible.

"Cynthia has made it very clear to me that she wants to take the high road and protect her children and herself," Kutner said shortly after filing the papers. "She wants to resolve the issues between Alex and herself in an amicable fashion."

A lawyer reportedly representing Alex Rodriguez did not immediately return calls for comment.

Nicole Kidman has a baby girl!

It seems like she was only just starting to show off her baby bump, but earlier this morning Nicole Kidman gave birth to a baby girl. Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, who received both of her parent's last names, weighed in a 6 lbs, 7.5 ounces.

Daddy Keith Urban is looking forward to the wild ride of new parenthood. "The unknown excites me a lot," he said recently. Nicole, of course, is already an experienced mother. She shares parenting duties of Isabella, 15, and Connor, 13 with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

Sunday was born in Nashville, where her parents have settled, though she'll also likely spend plenty of time in her mom's native Australia. Nicole was one of those pregnant woman who just glow, and looked so happy in every picture taken of her during her pregnancy. Congratulations to the new family!

'Hancock' a signature opening for Will Smith

"Hancock," a film about a petulant, perpetually drunken superhero, proved to be review-proof as well as bulletproof this weekend, overwhelming competitors and giving star Will Smith his fifth top-selling film on a Fourth of July weekend.

Audiences came in droves to see Smith play crime-fighter John Hancock in the Sony Pictures production, which pulled in an estimated $66 million over the three days beginning Independence Day, distributor Columbia Pictures said Sunday.

The strong performance of the PG-13 film extends the prospects for a healthy summer in Hollywood, which has seen ticket sales grow for six straight weekends.

"Hancock" drew $107.3 million over the 5 1/2 days since it began previewing Tuesday and officially opened Wednesday in 3,965 theaters, exceeding expectations of an $80-million haul, the studio said.

But it wasn't as strong as last year's holiday opening for the robot thriller "Transformers," which picked up $155.4 million during a similar 5 1/2 -day run.

"Hancock" marked Smith's eighth straight No. 1 opening and his eighth film to gross more than $100 million. His 2006 tear-jerker, "The Pursuit of Happyness," grossed $307 million globally, and December's zombie movie, "I Am Legend," took in $584 million.

Long regarded as a box office behemoth, the actor has led ticket sales 12 times in his career, the studio said.

"The Will Smith business is a great business to be in," said Rory Bruer, president of domestic distribution for Sony Pictures. "The film was different, fresh and unique, and it had Will Smith. We knew we were golden."

Overseas, the film has amassed an additional $78 million, opening at No. 1 in 47 of its 50 international territories, Bruer said.

Even negative reviews lambasting the film as a confusing jumble that reneged on its promising premise could not keep "Hancock" from besting last weekend's box office leader -- and critical darling -- "Wall-E." The animated Disney-Pixar film about a love-struck robot slipped to second place and took in $33.4 million in its second weekend, boosting its domestic total to $128.1 million.

Smith has shrugged off critics' sniping before. His 1999 sci-fi cowboy comedy "Wild Wild West" also was a critical bust but commercial smash on a Fourth of July weekend. "Independence Day" and the "Men in Black" series were Smith's other major holiday successes.

"Hancock" had some aces up its sleeve, including Jason Bateman as a do-gooder publicist and a plot twist involving Charlize Theron. The surprise appearance of the Oscar-winner fanned word of mouth.

The "Hancock" audience skewed young, with 52% under age 25, but was nearly evenly split between men and women, though many of the women left less than enthralled.

After a "Hancock" screening Saturday night at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, Heather Flores, 33, of Sherman Oaks gave the movie a thumbs down. Despite being a Will Smith fan, Flores said she was disappointed because the film was too predictable. "I saw everything coming. All the good scenes were in the previews," she said.

Her husband, Steven Flores, 35, a financial consultant who loved "Independence Day," said he was shocked by the twist and pleasantly surprised to see Theron. But the clincher was the lead actor.

"I would watch Will Smith's movies no matter what time of year they came out," he said.

Smith's on-screen appeal and his role in an aggressive marketing campaign should help "Hancock" easily recoup its $150-million production cost and probably surpass the $200-million mark, Bruer said.

So far this year, Paramount Pictures' "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and "Iron Man" have busted into the $300-million range, and Marvel Entertainment Inc.'s "The Incredible Hulk" is poised to hurtle past $200 million.

Weekend sales fell sharply for several movies out for more than a week.

"Wall-E" dropped 47%, and another major "Hancock" competitor, Universal Pictures' R-rated "Wanted," starring Angelina Jolie as a member of an assassins guild, plunged 60% to $20.6 million from $50.9 million at its opening last weekend. Both missed expectations.

The lower-profile "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl," a G-rated Depression-era drama from Picturehouse featuring Abigail Breslin, went to a wider market after two weeks in limited release. The film came in eighth with $3.6 million, behind Time Warner Inc.'s fourth-ranked "Get Smart" and "Kung Fu Panda," from DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.

Starting Friday, "Hancock" goes up against a trio of highly anticipated films. Action flicks "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" from Universal and the 3-D "Journey to the Center of the Earth" from Warner Bros. will premiere, along with the Eddie Murphy sci-fi comedy "Meet Dave."

Ice Princess

Ice Princess is a 2005 Disney live action film, directed by Tim Fywell.

Summary

Michelle Trachtenberg plays Casey Carlyle, a brainy bookworm and physics geek. Casey decides to use her academic skill by pursuing a scholarship offered to the top students in the state. For the scholarship, Casey must do a "personal" project about physics. While watching a figure skating competition featuring Sasha Cohen, Casey realizes that her hobby, ice skating, would make a perfect project for getting her scholarship. Initially, she watches other skaters at the local ice rink, but decides to try to improve her own skating by applying the physics and what she found out from analyzing other skaters. She becomes exceptionally good at skating, even skipping two levels to get a Junior Pass.

Unsure of what she really wants, Casey has a difficult time juggling schoolwork, skating, and a job at a food stand to pay for her skating lessons. Her mother, played by Joan Cusack, realizes that her daughter's constant skating is affecting her schoolwork and tells her to stop skating. Casey refuses and goes to regionals with help from her friend, Gen, and her coach. In the end, Casey turns down the scholarship to Harvard to keep skating, and attains a silver medal in the Sectionals. Casey and her mom reconcile after two months, and Casey finally gains her mother's support.

Meanwhile, there is increasing tension between Casey's coach Tina Harwood (Kim Cattrall), a disgraced former skater, and her daughter Gen, played by Hayden Panettiere. In this case, Tina, who manages the ice skating rink where Casey is training for competition, is putting her daughter into a strict training program and an even stricter diet. This irritates Gen, who has already begun to lose interest in skating and simply wants to be a normal teenager and student. Eventually Gen gets fed up and informs her mother and then Casey that she's quitting. Tina then becomes Casey's coach in the Sectionals.

At the sectionals, Casey performs well. In a triple loop jump, she slips and falls, but at the moment when she sees her mother in the spectators, that boosts her confidence and she gives an artistic performance.

She comes second in rank after Nikki Fletcher, and is going to the nationals.

Gen drops out after Tina buys Casey new skates which causes her to slip and fall.

Tina becomes Casey's personal coach and helps her get through nationals with a spectacular routine. Casey's mother is there to watch and congratulates her daughter as she realizes being brainy isn't everything. And maybe her daughter could use her brainy talent combined with her skating to be a spectacular skater

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult - Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy, O.J. Simpson, Fred Ward, Kathleen Freeman, Anna Nicole Smith, Ellen Greene, Ed Williams, Raye BirkRated: 12 - Suitable for 12 and overThe further misadventures of bumbling Los Angeles police Lieutenant Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) are chronicled in this third installment in the popular Naked Gun comedy series. This by-the-numbers entry begins with Drebin as a happily retired house-husband called back into action when an evil terrorist organization threatens Los Angeles.

As in the other Naked Gun films, this plot is merely an excuse for an unhinged, rapid-fire succession of gags, ranging from satyrical lampoons of cop movies to broad slapstick, all played with a perfectly straight face. Nielsen provides his familiar combination of complete witlessness and oblivious dignity as Drebin, and the film attempts to match the earlier Naked Gun films — and the Police Squad! television series that inspired them — in the number of jokes.

Death Race 2000

Asylum's first fall mockbuster Death Racers hits just a month after it's big screen cousin Death Race hits theaters. I'm looking forward to it. After the disappointment of Allan Quartermain and the Temple of Skulls, Sci-Fi's premier of 100 Million BC (hitting DVD July 29) restored my faith in Asylum as it bought home a fun little flick that was throughly enjoyable. Hopefully, Death Racers will be the same.

Asylum has recently updated the movie's page with the cover art, which in my opinion, is better than the current Death Race poster. Sorta gives the vibe of Grindhouse a tad. They have also added the films trailer to the page. But first, standard warnings apply: THIS TRAILER IS NOT WORK SAFE DUE TO LANGUAGE, VIOLENCE, YADDA, YADDA, YADDA now with me bum covered, check out the trailer here.

The film looks decent and interesting. I'll be checking it out when it comes out. Special Features:

  • Making of the Race Featurette
  • Making the Cars Featurette
  • Bloopers

Death Race 2000: Buckingham Palace Style

American Musician Nearly Run Over
by Queen of England

Kevin Montgomery: ... "So, i'm walking through Windsor Great Park in outside Windsor Castle......and all of a sudden i'm startled by a car right behind me.......i spun around and the Queen passed by me in a Jaguar.......yes, she was driving......had a lime green hat on......the path in front of the castle is normally only used by pedestrians.......even bicycles are not allowed, but it is her property so i reckon she can do what she wants!!!
I just happened to be filming at the moment she came up behind me, or i would never have gotten it on film.
Anyway, it was kind of cool.........who can say they were that close to the Queen......i'm quite sure that will be our only meeting!!!! British people might not find this interesting, but for an American it was pretty cool." ... (video below)

That video clip above reminds me of something
you'd see on Olbermann, ... on Oddball.
-
(..."The Lunatic is on the Grass, ... Drunk!"...)

-

The video above inspired me to come up with new lyrics
to the Sex Pistols' song, "Roadrunner." (below)

-

Old song:

Roadrunner roadrunner
Going faster miles an hour
Gonna ride by the stop-n-shop
With the radio on

New song:

Drunkdriver Alzheimer
Scare the peasants with my Jaguar
Drivin' fast down the pedestrian path
With my lime green hat on
