In case you’ve missed all the chatter about Nissan’s latest rendition of the Skyline, formally badged as the GT-R, it has officially set the pace for the Nurburgring with a lap time of 7:29.03. If that lap time means little to you, maybe the following list of cars which were slower than the GT-R will mean more: the Porsche Carrera GT, Porsche 911 GT2, the Koenigsegg CCR, Mercedes’ SLR McLaren, and that limited-production-run vehicle which barely got any press coverage, the Bugatti Veyron.
Chevy has taken this harder than most other automakers. The latest version of their oh-so-iconic American supercar, the 2008 Corvette Z06, ran around the ‘Ring quickly at 7:42.9 seconds, beating a stable full of supercars like the Pagani Zonda S, the race-bred Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and Ferrari’s own F430 Scuderia. But coming up for 2009 is Chevy’s supercharged version of the Z06. Code named the Blue Devil, officially released as ZR-1, Chevy says their new hot rod will beat the GT-R. Maybe so Chevy, but are you ready for the GT-R V-Spec which is unofficially running lap times of 7:25 seconds? We’ll see come the new year…for those of you that haven’t seen what the new GT-R is all about, scope the pics below.
